ABOUT US
What We Do:
At Fernandez Advisors, we provide strategic advice on complex issues to progressive leaders and organizations across the advocacy, non-profit, philanthropic and corporate sectors. Depending on our clients' needs, we make available strategic advising, data collection and analysis, technology assessment, program design, budget development, communications advice, as well as project management. Our clients are diverse -- ranging from large national foundations to local youth agencies and from political donors to international human rights nonprofits. We work with those committed to change, where our support can make a meaningful difference.
How We Do It:
We spend time to get to know an organization and its leaders. We then put the appropriate team in place to research the matter of concern, engage key staff and allies, and provide recommendations for change. We bring our own expertise and supplement it with partners who understand a specific issue extremely well. Finally, we provide an implementation strategy to assist our clients in getting from here to there.

The Types of Projects We Work On:
Donor Advising:
We completed dozens of interviews with users, operators, owners and funders of civic participation technology in order to make recommendations to donors about how to pay for technology use at scale.
Tech Organizing:
For an immigrant rights coalition we designed and implemented an approach to identify and mobilize more than 1 million local activists using polling, modelling, phone banks, social media, online tools, and large scale text message advocacy.
Program Assessment:
For a national civil rights organization we put together a team to evaluate the viability of moving their headquarters to Washington, DC and then wrote a plan that included an assessment of their existing property, preliminary capital fundraising capacity, potential for an on-site museum and cost of relocation.
Strategic and Campaign Planning:
For a bipartisan coalition committed to criminal justice reform, we developed plans for community education, grassroots advocacy and legislative policy reforms in 12 states.
Grassroots Advocacy:
We developed and helped implement grassroots mobilization and legislative advocacy strategies for leading human rights organizations to pursue ending the death penalty in three separate states.
Management Consulting:
In a long term engagement with a wonderful youth agency, we were asked to rebuild its budget, fundraising office, service delivery strategy, and approach to its 100 year old community center as well as identify and hire key staff and ensure their professional development.
Civic Engagement:
For a national organization we wrote a plan to register over 200,000 people of color to vote and then assisted the organization in successfully fundraising, identifying implementation partners, and building out call centers to get out the vote.
Research:
In 8 battleground states, we completed research for clients who wanted to identify the existing capacity to deliver voter registration at scale based on a combination of performance metrics and our team's experience managing electoral and voter registration campaigns.
